A long way from the Rockies by DDL-Photography A long way from the Rockies by DDL-Photography
December 29, 2012

My first photo submission for the New Year is from my last photo outing of 2012.

UP GP60 1901 and UP SD60M 2322 back their train to line up to the track that leads into the UP Belt Yard in St. Paul, MN. UP 1901 started life out as Rio Grande 3155 which was one of only three GP60's painted for the Rio Grande. UP 1902 has been fully repainted leaving only 1900 and 1901 left.

Yeah, once the GP/SD35 series came out with the standardized cab, they all started looking the same with slight changes to it and more changes on the long hood. With all the hoards of Wide Cab locomotives now, it's nice to see a standard cab!

Thank you for adding this to your favorites!

That thing was down in Dallas for many months in their local pool. I can't believe it still survives!

I was too! I lost track of these and thought by now that they had all been repainted! Talk about a jaw dropper when she and the other unit rounded a curve!!!

Incredible catch! Me too! Brings back memories of the DRGW I caught in Cicero Yard and at Pueblo, Colorado! I caught an unpatched Cotton Belt GP60 a couple of years ago too.

Very nice catch! Ah...Pueblo. When I was living in Colorado I made it down there a couple of times. It was always a fun trip and I managed to catch something different each time! Those were the days!

Correction,

The D&RG purchased the Southern Pacific and Cotton Belt in 1988 and assumed the Southern Pacific name sine it was more known and then the D&RGW, SP and SSW were all merged into the UP in 1996.

I thought 1989 seemed way to early!
