The Milwaukee Road by DDL-Photography The Milwaukee Road by DDL-Photography
On October 9, 2011 a beautiful string of Milwaukee Road passenger cars passes by Dayton's Bluff in St. Paul, MN. They are part of the "Friends of the 261" Fall Colors Excursion with Heritage painted Amtrak 156 on the point. Since you can't see the Amtrak locomotive, you could imagine this scene taking place many years ago.

Hi Alex,

It's actually the rear passenger car in the train. It's an old retro style design that only the Milwaukee Road had on their rear passenger cars.

Thanks for stopping by!

Wow! It almost looked like a locomotive with forward view port for passengers.

Thanks! Also thank you for reminding me I forgot to put a date in the caption! It was taken on 10-9-2011 and yes it's just north of the CP Pigs Eye yard and the UP Belt yard.

... :'D fall 2011 you say? I was on that train! [haha they sneaked a little Hiawatha insignia on the nose of that Amtrak loco, if you saw that as we passed by!] I'm one of those 261 volunteers - I either help out as crew with the fall excursions, but I'm usually at the shop, helping out with the rebuilds! C:

That's one of my favorite places to trainspot at! that and Northtown, an any of the bridges~ [there are a bunch of Oakways hiding out at Northtown by the way, of that power interests you! I know one of my good friends went crazy about those :) ]

Very cool! Talk about a small world!

That's awesome your volunteering for such a great group! I've got to stop by the shops someday when I've got time.

Yeah, Northyard, University, Bridges and Dayton's Bluff are my favorites also. Thanks for the tip on the SD60's! I'll have to head up here soon and snag some shots.

If you see a red Durango, that would be me. If I sit still long enough, please feel free to introduce yourself as it's always great to meet other railroad photographers from around the area!

Yes it is haha!

You totally should! We don't mind visitors, and we don't bite! :'D The team is usually down there Thursdays and Saturdays, in the afternoon and evening. Come by before we put the flues in if you want to crawl around in the boiler! :XD:

No prob!

Allright! I can be found with my trusty old 2004 Toyota Prius C:

Thanks for the invite! I'll definitely take you up on that. It's sad that I've lived in the Twin Cities for almost ten years and have not photographed 261 yet! I'll be looking forward to breaking that sad record!

[and we started putting the flues in!]

Oh and you know how I was yakking about those Oakways? [link] ...I was being serious. This was taken yesterday by my friend! C:

Gotta catch 'em all!

Yeah, Le bad timing. Great! I've been looking forward to meeting 261!

Thanks for the link! Yikes, it's sad to see them just sitting like that. I'll have to try this weekend and gets some shots before they head out. If I do (weather permitting) I'll stop by the shops.
