Winter on the Railroad by DDL-Photography Winter on the Railroad by DDL-Photography
January 9, 2010

With the air temperature at -12 and the wind chill around -20 a Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern train with a pair of Canadian Pacific SD40-2's sits on a siding just outside of Waseca, MN waiting for a new crew and warmer days.

Thank you! I was surprised it turn out as my eyes were watering from the cold wind hitting them and I couldn't tell if if was in focus!

Yes, both Canadian Pacific and Canadian National have purchased some US railroads and you see them quite a lot. Unfortunately some of the railroads they absorbed were some of my favorites like the Wisconsin Central and the Soo Line. Oh well, at least I got some pictures of them while I could and some are still around although a lot harder to find.

I'm very ignorant about Americas railways, I really must try and visit!

Yeah, I'm the same way when it comes to railroads in other parts of the world! When you hop the pond and visit the US you won't be disappointed. With all the variations in terrain and railroads, you will have a lot to choose from! That will be the hard part!

Yes! It also gives a whole different effect - all that white, it brings out the locomotive's colors better! [...Unless the locos are white :'D]
