A helping hand. by DDL-Photography A helping hand. by DDL-Photography
This is a fun concept I thought of a few years ago that tells a story about "what if" the model train world was alive and interacted with us? With a lot of help, here I am helping out my little friends put a derailed freight car back on the track for them.

I actually owe all the inspiration to the figures from Woodland Scenics woodlandscenics.woodlandscenic… for this shot. By looking at them and the way they were posed helped me put the story together in my head for this. I also used Woodland Scenics ballast around the track in the picture.

I used forced perspective to create more depth in this shot. In the foreground are larger O scale models, Locomotive, Figures, Freight Car, & Track. In the background is the smaller HO scale models, Grain Elevator and Freight Cars.

I had the honor of this picture being published last spring in the May 2014 issue of Model Railroad Hobbyist: mrhpub.com/2014-05-may/land/#1

Model Railroad Hobbyist is a fantastic monthly online magazine that is a wealth of information for the beginner to the most experienced modeler. The best part is that it's totally free each! If you like model trains or just have a remote interest, I highly encourage you to not only check out the magazine, but also the blogs that are posted. A sight that is all too familiar on the my layout. I tried to hand lay a switch. Didn't work.
Good use of Forced Perspective.
You should send it in to Model Railroader's Trackside Photos.

Thank you!

Yeah, I think anyone with a model train layout has done this one too may times! Have you tried Fast Tracks for and laying switches? I know a lot of modelers that love them. I'm hoping to try some this fall!

never heard of them. Right now, I made the siding have a semi-permanent derailed car on it, since it is out of the way, (it is a siding that comes off a longer industry siding) and the longer siding is double- ended. makes for a nice challenge.
